OK. First things first. Let's come clean about something.

We're pretty sure that, here at HostelBeds, we know what makes backpackers tick. How are we so sure? Because for many years now, we've been backpackers.

Between us we've run the bulls in Pamplona, partied until we dropped in Ko Phan Nang, watched the sun come up on the Grand Canyon, white-water rafted through the Pyrenees and drunk tea with Berber tribesmen high up in the Atlas Mountains. We've... Well, you name it: we've probably done it.

For my part, I decided to settle down a while back. I managed a hostel for a while, and continued to do my travelling through the stories of my guests, their accounts of the fantastic places they'd been to - the dust of the road they brought in with them.

So this, really, was just the next logical step for me. With a couple of like-minded people, I set out to take all this knowledge that we'd accrued together from our years as full-time, dyed in the wool backpackers, and combine it with everything I'd learnt from my time on the other side of the reception desk, as a highly successful hostel manager.

Before we started we knew that there were plenty of other websites out there who claimed that they provided the best service for backpackers. And some of them... well, they do a passable job. But wouldn't it be so much better if there was one standout candidate, one that really stood up and did a great job? It was with this in mind that we set to work pulling together all the best hostels worldwide. Yes, we wanted a site that was effortlessly stylish. But we were also equally determined to provide a perfectly efficient, easy to use website that takes all the hardship out of booking your beds online. This, of course, leaves you more time to get out there and enjoy your stay!

And the result? Well, it's the site you see before you today - a labour of love as well as a lot of hard work.
